A Breakthrough in English Proficiency
On March 15, EMG Education, in collaboration with Pearson Education Group and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training (DOET), held a ceremony to award Pearson Edexcel International General Certificates and recognize students for their outstanding achievements.
This year, more than 700 students from the Integrated English Program received international general certificates, including the iPrimary Certificate, the iLowerSecondary Certificate, and the International GCSE Certificate.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyễn Văn Hiếu, Director of Ho Chi Minh City DOET, stated that the Integrated English Program was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee under Proposal 5695, "Teaching and Learning Mathematics, Science, and English Integrated with the UK and Vietnamese Curricula," since 2014.
Mr. Nguyễn Văn Hiếu spoke at the ceremony
After ten years of implementation, the program has demonstrated a breakthrough in enhancing students' English proficiency. English is not only taught as a conventional foreign language but also as a medium for Mathematics and Science through a high-quality curriculum that integrates the Vietnamese national curriculum with the UK curriculum. The program ensures international recognition through globally accredited certificates.
Mr. Hiếu also highlighted that, in alignment with Conclusion 91 by the Politburo on comprehensive educational reform and Ho Chi Minh City’s Education Development Strategy towards 2030, with a vision to 2045, a key objective is to gradually establish English as a second language in schools.
“The successful implementation of the Integrated English Program over the past decade reflects the strategic vision of Ho Chi Minh City's leadership in advancing foreign language proficiency. The achievements of students in international certification exams serve as concrete proof of the program’s effectiveness. These successes lay a foundation for further expansion, helping to realize the goal of making English a second language in school,” - he stated.

The Ho Chi Minh City DOET acknowledges Pearson Education Group’s goodwill and support in working alongside the city’s education sector. “We look forward to strengthening this strategic international cooperation to provide the best opportunities for our students,” - Mr. Hiếu added.
Study Secrets of a Global Top Scorer in Mathematics
This year, in the Pearson Edexcel International General Certificate examinations—administered by the UK’s largest examination board—students in grades 5, 9, and 11 of the Integrated English Program achieved remarkable results compared to their peers both regionally and globally.
For Mathematics, 99% of students passed across all three levels, with 80% scoring above average. At the lower secondary level, 74% of students achieved Excellent and Outstanding scores, significantly surpassing the global average of 49%.
For English, 54% of students achieved Excellent scores, more than double the global average of 24%.
For Science, 54% of students attained Excellent scores, outperforming the global average of 36%.
Many students achieved exceptional personal milestones. Eleven students received the Outstanding Pearson Learner Awards for the highest scores in Vietnam for each subject, while 33 students earned the Excellence Awards for outstanding performance across Mathematics, English, and Science.
The outstanding students joyfully received their awards
During the ceremony, two top achievers were honored: Trần Hà Thanh Trúc from Trần Đại Nghĩa High School for the Gifted (Thu Duc City), who achieved a perfect score (9 out of 9) in all three subjects and the highest English score in Vietnam, and Văn Hoàng Minh Anh from Lê Hồng Phong High School for the Gifted (District 5), who attained the highest Mathematics score worldwide.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minh Anh, a 10th-grade student in class 10 CA - TH1 at Lê Hồng Phong High School for the Gifted, shared her study strategy for academic excellence: determination and effective time management.
"During each class session, I focus on absorbing the knowledge immediately. At home, I practice the newly learned material rather than cramming right before exams. Additionally, balancing study and relaxation helps prevent stress and burnout," - Minh anh explained.
Regarding self-study techniques, Minh Anh mentioned recording her study sessions on her phone. "This method helps me stay focused and avoid distractions from my phone. I can also review the recorded sessions when needed. Moreover, I take notes consistently throughout my learning process, which allows me to structure, retain, and expand my knowledge effectively."
"Before major exams, I review key concepts and revisit my notes taken over time. This approach not only broadens my knowledge but also ensures I retain essential information," she added.
Mr. David Albon spoke at the ceremony
Mr. David Albon, Director of International Programs at Pearson Education Group, emphasized, “The success of students is greatly attributed to the support of education administrators, school leaders, teachers, staff, and families. The outstanding achievements of students highlight the Integrated English Program as a leading model in enhancing education quality in Vietnam.” |
