INTEGRATED PROGRAM
General introduction
In November 2014, the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City passed Decision no. 5695/QD-UBND approving the “Teaching and learning English, Maths and Science with an integrated curriculum of the Vietnamese curriculum and the UK’s Key Stage curriculum”. The city’s Department of Education worked in partnership with EMG Education to launch the Integrated Program in schools from term II to the 2014 – 2015 school year.
The Integrated Program was designed to combine the strengths of the Vietnamese National Curriculum and the UK Key Stage curriculum. The Vietnamese curriculum applies the mastery approach in which content is generally studied to great depth and aims for a strong theoretical understanding, whilst the Key Stage curriculum focuses more on real life application and problem-solving techniques.
Students of the Integrated Program will study all subjects of the Vietnamese curriculum as laid out by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education with their Vietnamese teachers. They will also study an additional 8 periods a week (Primary and Lower Secondary) or 15 periods a week (High School) with native speakers for the subjects of English, Maths and Science.
