INTEGRATED PROGRAM

INTEGRATED PROGRAM

General introduction

In November 2014, the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City passed Decision no. 5695/QD-UBND approving the “Teaching and learning English, Maths and Science with an integrated curriculum of the Vietnamese curriculum and the UK’s Key Stage curriculum”. The city’s Department of Education worked in partnership with EMG Education to launch the Integrated Program in schools from term II to the 2014 – 2015 school year.

The Integrated Program was designed to combine the strengths of the Vietnamese National Curriculum and the UK Key Stage curriculum. The Vietnamese curriculum applies the mastery approach in which content is generally studied to great depth and aims for a strong theoretical understanding, whilst the Key Stage curriculum focuses more on real life application and problem-solving techniques.

Students of the Integrated Program will study all subjects of the Vietnamese curriculum as laid out by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education with their Vietnamese teachers. They will also study an additional 8 periods a week (Primary and Lower Secondary) or 15 periods a week (High School) with native speakers for the subjects of English, Maths and Science.

Notable advantages
The program was developed in a scientific and logical manner
The program was developed in a scientific and logical manner
The Integrated Program combines the strengths of the Key Stage curriculum and the Vietnamese curriculum, helping the students to achieve the learning objectives of each program whilst maintaining a manageable workload. Students still study all the subjects of the Vietnamese curriculum, and at the same time will have the opportunity to study English, Math and Science taught in English. The curriculum was designed in a systematic manner that attempts to avoid repetition in terms of teaching of content and to ensure the students will meet the learning objectives of both curricula.

Students in the Integrated Program are evaluated based on the regulations set by the Ministry of Education and Training. At the end of the school year, they will take a Vietnamese test to obtain a graduation certificate as per these regulations. Additionally, students will sit for an international certification exam from Edexcel, a British examination board under the Pearson group. They also have the option to register for the ACT exam (USA) or other international English proficiency tests such as PEIC, IELTS, TOEFL, or TOEIC.
