EMG Film Festival 2026: Stepping into the World of Cinema with Integrated English Students

19/05/2026

On the morning of May 15 in Ho Chi Minh City, Grade 11 students from the Integrated English Program at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted and Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted took part in the EMG Film Festival—an annual event initiated and organized by the teaching team of EMG Education.

Learning filmmaking through literature

Inspired by well-known literary works, student teams were assigned different stages of production just like a real film crew—from scriptwriting and acting to filming, editing, and sound design. All films were produced in English, allowing students to strengthen their language skills while developing their ability to build characters and convey stories in a natural and engaging way.

An Oscar-inspired ceremony with 12 award categories

The films were evaluated by a panel of judges from EMG Education and awarded across 12 categories, including Best Sets and Locations, Best Props and Costumes, Best Cinematography, Best Sound and Music, Best Effects and Editing, Best Creative Adaptation, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Leading Actor, Best Leading Actress, and Best Picture. These categories were designed to mirror the prestigious Oscar Awards.

Skills that go beyond the classroom

Beyond filmmaking, students developed a wide range of practical skills throughout the project. Nhu Y, a student from Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, shared: “Besides filmmaking skills, we also improved our time management and problem-solving abilities. After each project, we learn something new and continue to grow.”

Anthony Monaghan, Academic Manager at EMG Education, emphasized: “More than anything, we want students to learn how to work together - that is the core of every project.”

Part of a holistic educational journey

The EMG Film Festival is one of many enrichment activities within the Integrated English Program, implemented under Project 5695, which teaches Mathematics and Science in English. The program integrates advanced educational technologies such as AI, 3D models, and Metaverse virtual classrooms, while also organizing STEM Fair competitions to encourage innovation and creativity.

After more than 10 years of implementation, the program has affirmed its direction as aligned with the requirements of international integration and development in the Industry 4.0 and 5.0 era. It closely follows the orientations of Resolution 57-NQ/TW and Resolution 71-NQ/TW on digital transformation in education, as well as Conclusion 91-KL/TW of the Politburo and Project 2371/QĐ-TTg recently approved by the Prime Minister on “Making English a second language in schools for the period 2025–2035, with a vision to 2045.”
