Starting from September 2025, ACT tests administered outside the United States will undergo the following changes:
1. Test structure
The Science section will become optional, meaning that candidates can choose whether or not to take the Science test. Students will only be required to complete three sections: English, Math, and Reading.

Starting from September 2025, candidates will have the option to take the Science section or skip it
2. Test duration
With the Science section becoming optional, the total test duration will be adjusted as follows:
- ACT with only the 3 required sections (English, Math, and Reading): 2 hours 15 minutes
- ACT with Science or Writing included: 2 hours 55 minutes
- ACT with both Science and Writing included: 3 hours 40 minutes
3. Test content
From the September 2025 administration, the total number of required questions will decrease by 44 questions compared to previous ACT tests. Details by section are as follows:
English Section
- Number of questions: reduced from 75 to 50
- Time: reduced from 45 minutes to 35 minutes
- Each question will include instructions, and the “No change” answer will be bolded.
Math Section
- Number of questions: reduced from 60 to 45
- Time: reduced from 60 minutes to 50 minutes
- Number of answer choices: reduced from 5 to 4 options
Reading Section
- Number of questions: reduced from 40 to 36
- Time: increased from 35 minutes to 40 minutes
Science Section
- Number of questions: remains 40
- Time: increased from 35 minutes to 40 minutes
4. Other Key Points (Unchanged)
- Test start times remain at 8:00 AM or 1:30 PM
- Break between Math and Reading sections: 15 minutes
- Required order of sections: English - Math - Reading - Science - Writing
- Accommodations for special needs remain as per current ACT regulations
