On January 5, 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Decision No. 93/QD-BGDDT recognizing the levels of the Pearson English International Certificate (PEIC) as equivalent to the levels of the Vietnam Six-Level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework (VFLPF).
New English proficiency standard option for students
According to Decision 93, the six levels of the PEIC test are recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training as equivalent to the six levels of the VFLPF as follows:
Therefore, in addition to well-known English standards in Vietnam such as IELTS and TOEFL, the Pearson English International Certificate (PEIC) test scores can now officially be used for university admissions and training purposes. They can also serve as an English proficiency standard for students at all educational levels, from primary to postgraduate studies, opening up new opportunities and choices for English learners in Vietnam.
What is the PEIC certificate?
The PEIC certificate is an international English proficiency standard that assesses all four skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing), designed for both students and working professionals. The PEIC exam is divided into six levels corresponding to the six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), providing a precise evaluation of learners’ abilities and progress at different stages of language development.
The PEIC certificate is issued by Pearson Education, one of the world’s most prestigious and long-standing educational organizations, and the largest awarding body in the United Kingdom. The PEIC exam is widely administered across many countries and is recognized by businesses, universities, and government agencies worldwide, including the UK’s Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (OFQUAL), the Italian Ministry of Education, and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among others.
One significant advantage of the PEIC certificate over other popular international English tests in Vietnam is the precision of its scoring system and the flexibility it offers to test-takers. The PEIC certificate comprises six separate exams, each corresponding to a specific proficiency level from A1 to C2 on the CEFR scale. This allows candidates to choose an exam level that precisely matches their aspirations and language abilities.
Additionally, the PEIC exam is designed based on real-life language usage scenarios, making it relatable and accessible for English learners. The test employs familiar question formats that are easy for candidates to approach. Furthermore, the PEIC exam maintains consistent structure across all six levels, enabling learners to become accustomed to the test format and build confidence in using the language naturally. This provides a positive and encouraging experience for candidates as they work toward mastering English.
How to take the PEIC exam?
In Vietnam, the PEIC certificate is administered by EMG Education, the strategic partner of Pearson Education. EMG Education and Pearson have been approved by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) to collaborate in organizing the PEIC exams in Vietnam under Decision No. 868/QĐ-BGDĐT, dated March 22, 2023.
It is noted that, compared to other international English proficiency certificates available in Vietnam, the PEIC certificate has the lowest fee for a 4-skill exam (Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing).
